Family and Youth Action Team Charge

The Family and Youth Action Team will promote system change intended to create healthy neighborhood environments for the families and youth who reside in those neighborhoods.  The Family and Youth Action Team will examine how the families and youth living in specific, geographically designed neighborhoods interact with the institutions and organizations within their neighborhoods.  More specifically the Action Team will examine specifically how those interactions can promote the health and well-being of neighborhood residents through access to locally produced food and safe spaces for walking, playing and recreating.  The Family and Youth Action Team will maintain communication with the Oakland Unified School District to ensure that the HOPE Collaborative Action Plan contributes to the efforts to build school/community partnerships through the Coordinated School Health Council that will benefit the 40,000 students and families in the school district, most of whom are low-income residents; and to identify initiatives for out-of-school youth that educate and empower them to adopt healthy lifestyle habits specific to diet and exercise.
